Consumer credit on the rise thanks to personal loans and revolving credit

According to the latest figures published by the French Association of Financial Companies (ASF), consumer loans increased by 10.5% over one year in the first half of 2022, mainly thanks to revolving loans and personal loans.

The revolving credits and personal loans respectively progressed from 18.3% and 16.7% in the first half, compared to the same period of 2021. The production of credits allocated to the purchase of a vehicle second-hand private individual, on the other hand, only progressed 3.2%, while those dedicated to housing and household goods increased by 6.7%. The operations of lease with option to purchase (LOA)very popular for new and used vehicles, remain an important activity for the sector: they represent one in four consumer loans and have increased by 6% in the first semester.

24.3 billion euros for the first half

Over the entire period, the production of specialized establishments was 24.3 billion euros. Consumer loans weighed 45.3 billion euros over the whole of last year.

The ASF brings together some 260 companies in equipment and real estate leasing, factoring and other related services. It gives for consumer credit only the figures of its members who represent nearly 50% of the outstanding amount of all credit institutions and the majority of revolving credit operations, she says.
