Born in Debrecen (Eastern Hungary) in 1925, Fahidi survived deportation to Auschwitz as well as camp imprisonment and forced labor in Allendorf, a subcamp of Buchenwald concentration camp, at the age of 18. It was only many years after the liberation that she began to pass on her memories to those born after her.

The survivors of Auschwitz thank with admiration and affection a great woman who, throughout her life, counteracted the death of Auschwitz with her memories, her creativity and her joy in life.

Although her parents and sister were murdered in the Auschwitz concentration camp, she persisted in her joy of life and trusted the power of memory, wrote Christoph Heubner, the executive vice president of the Auschwitz Committee.

Fahidi repeatedly traveled to Germany to talk to people. She warned of the dangers of right-wing populist mobilizations and right-wing extremist violence.

Fahidi was a member of the advisory board of the Buchenwald Memorial. In 2012 she received the Federal Cross of Merit. In 2020, the city of Weimar made her an honorary citizen.
