convicted killer, girl’s family disappointed and ‘devastated’

On the night of June 9 to 10, the young man accused of the murder of Shaïna – whose body was found in October 2019 in Oise – was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment.

A terrible drama. On October 25, 2019, a 15-year-old girl named Shaïna had been stabbed and burned to death by her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend. The facts had taken place in the commune of Creil, in the Oise, and this appalling crime had immediately provoked a shock wave across France. On the night of Friday June 9 to Saturday June 10, the accused was sentenced by the Assize Court for Minors of Oise to an 18-year prison sentence for the assassination of this young girl who was possibly pregnant with him. The trial ended after five long days marked by a tense climate.

When the verdict was announced, Shaina’s family – who would have been 19 in 2023 – did not hide his immense disappointment. And for good reason, this 18-year sentence is far from the 30 years required by the Advocate General, but also from the expectations formulated by the victim’s parents, Parveen and Shakill Hansyewho estimate that between the pre-trial detention carried out and the possible remissions of sentence, the accused could be released from prison before the age of 30.

Shaina’s brother victim of a malaise

“I’m devastated. I think he deserved more and thathe should have been judged as big, not as smallsaid Shaina’s dad, whose words were relayed in an article in the Parisian published this Saturday. For his part, Yasin Hansye, the brother of the victim, had to be taken care of by the firefighters, after being unwell. “18 years! That’s justice in France!” he got carried away.

On October 27, 2019, Shaina’s body had been found charred in a garden shed located in Creil, in the Plateau district. Very quickly, the girl’s former boyfriend was named as the perpetrator, recalls the regional daily. Upstream, he had hidden a pair of gloves, a kitchen knife and a bottle of gasoline in that same shed. The motive for the crime: a few days earlier, the teenager had told him that she was expecting a child.
