For the first time, Israel reports a case of “Flurona” – a simultaneous coronavirus and flu virus infection. The name is a mixture of the words “flu” (flu in English) and coronavirus.
The double infection was found in a new mother in a hospital in the city of Petah Tikva. Several Israeli media reported on Thursday.
Obstetrician and gynecologist Arnon Vizhnitser told the daily Hamodia: “She was diagnosed with the flu and coronavirus as soon as she arrived. Last year we had no flu cases in pregnant or giving birth women. “

The woman does not have any unusually strong symptoms, although she has not been vaccinated against both pathogens. The Ministry of Health is still reviewing the relatively mild case and investigating whether a combination of the two viruses could cause a more serious illness.
Experts assume that other patients have already developed “Flurona” but have not yet been diagnosed. At the beginning of December, the Austrian Association of Vaccine Manufacturers warned against double infections – especially in children. It is all the more important to “have yourself and your children vaccinated against influenza and Covid-19”. (gin)
