Corona crisis: We should get used to that now and forever

Do not hold your face all the time, eat at the table, instead of passing your smartphone around wildly while walking or on the train – lessons learned. (Corona virus, you can go again !!!) But apart from such practical learnings, which we should not only take to heart during a pandemic, we can use the corona virus as an opportunity to question other habits, points of view and thought patterns. Making the best of this pandemic crap means, among other things, learning from it and becoming better people. Five suggestions for habits that we could now train forever.

5 habits that we could not only give up during the corona crisis

1. FOMO

FOMO, the fear of missing something, drives many people to be constantly on the go and at every party, to fly to every trendy holiday destination and to do something constantly. For those who let their lives be controlled by such an addiction to pleasure, the coronavirus means cold withdrawal. Suddenly there are only a few entertainment options available and there is not much left to be missed. Instead, we have to find ways to deal with it ourselves so that we feel good about it. Maybe it would be good for us not to give up this self-reflection ability, which we are now forced to practice, "right after Corona" …

2. Evaluate people and professions differently

We see it in wages and in part also in dealing with each other: We tend to classify and rate occupational groups and people differently. Cleaning staff, supermarket employees, truck drivers, nursing staff – in "normal" times they may not get enough respect and less appreciation than, for example, lawyers and bankers. But in this crisis they save all of us the bottom! Everyone Humans play an important, indispensable role in our overall system. All deserve the same respect. No matter how expensive their clothes are, what they have learned and which crisis is currently in phase. Do we want to agree on this once and for all?

3. Pushing

The corona virus teaches and forces us to keep our distance – also and especially from strangers. Why don't we just keep this up? At the checkout in the supermarket, when boarding the bus and train, on the escalator, sidewalks … It doesn't always have to be two meters, but a little distance would actually be okay. As a sign of decency and respect. And because not everyone starts cuddling with strangers …

4. Just think of yourself

Nothing against a healthy dose of selfishness, after all, even in the corona crisis: everyone who takes care not to infect himself is doing the general a favor. However, selfishness should end where it endangers or harms other people. The corona virus forces people who are likely to put up with the disease to limit and refrain from doing so in order to protect their fellow human beings. How beautiful our world would be if there wasn't a crisis so that we all take more care of each other …?

5. Ignorance

Why stand at the red pedestrian light when there is no car in sight? Politicians are all stupid? Ha, I'm going to choose the AfD to wipe them out! Prosperity and luxury (maybe there are other factors) make many people self-righteous and ignorant. In the corona crisis, however, we suddenly all have to follow the rules and listen to those who know better than we do. A little more humility, the willingness to question yourself and what you think you know – could very well tolerate our lives. Even if there is no virus at the moment.
