Corona current: slaughterhouse closed after the outbreak

There was another corona outbreak in a slaughterhouse. The infected were discovered in a series test – now the company has to close.

In addition to private events and nursing homes, there are slaughterhouses that have been linked to corona outbreaks time and again since the beginning of the pandemic. A company in Lower Saxony has now been temporarily closed. Several employees at the poultry slaughterhouse tested positive for the coronavirus.

Another corona outbreak in the slaughterhouse

Specifically, it is a poultry slaughterhouse in Steinfeld in the Vechta district. Actually, only a series test was carried out there. However, it was positive on Monday with 14 employees. As the NDR reports, the number of infected employees has now climbed to over 20. As a result, the authorities of the district decided on Wednesday evening to close the slaughterhouse for the time being.

In order to be allowed to continue slaughtering, the company must first revise its hygiene concept, according to the NDR. Only then could half the workforce continue to work on next Monday at the earliest. The measure is intended to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus. A total of 150 people are employed at the poultry slaughterhouse.

It is not the first slaughterhouse where the coronavirus has spread. Infected people are currently being reported on several farms across Germany.

Overall, the Robert Koch Institute has set new records for new infections this week – on Thursday, 16,774 new corona cases were last announced within 24 hours. For this reason, Chancellor Angela Merkel has now called for new lockdown measures. The rules should apply from Monday, November 2nd and relate primarily to private events and gastronomy.
