Last week, between 600 and 700 new infections were reported daily.
A good half of all new infections affect young people under 30 years of age, the experts said. The surge is believed to be due to nightlife – Greece only lifted the nightly curfew, which ran from 1:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., earlier last week. Another reason for the increase is the spread of the delta variant.
Greek media reported on Tuesday that the government is again considering measures such as night curfews and travel bans – however, measures should only apply to unvaccinated citizens in the future. At the same time, the vaccination campaign is to be promoted even more, including with mobile vaccination stations at holiday destinations.
