The corona numbers are rising again. Several corona cases have now been reported on the popular holiday island of Sylt.

As soon as it was possible to travel again, people flocked to Sylt. Although summer is over, many tourists are still vacationing on the island. Two corona outbreaks have now been reported in a restaurant and a hotel.

+++ Update: Zanzibar closes +++

After the announcement of a corona outbreak on Sylt last weekend, more and more infected people are now being reported. In the meantime, 29 employees of the “Sansibar” restaurant are said to have tested positive for the Coronavius. The cases were discovered during a further series test.

The owner then took action: the restaurant had to close for the time being. “Unfortunately, despite a full vaccination, part of our team is affected by the breakthroughs and is sick with Corona”, can be read on the “Sansibar” website.

The problem: The entire extent of the corona outbreak is difficult to understand, since guests are no longer registered in the restaurant due to the 2G regulation. As the NDR reports, it is therefore unclear whether and how many visitors to the Zanzibar could have been infected. Guests from Lower Saxony are said to have reported to “NDR Schleswig Holstein” and reported that they were infected with the corona virus in said restaurant. It cannot be proven whether that was actually the place of infection.

In case of doubt, anyone who has been to the restaurant and feels sick should be tested.

Corona outbreak in Sansibar on Sylt

According to NDR, several employees in the well-known “Sansibar” restaurant are said to have been infected with the corona virus. A total of six positive cases have already been reported over the weekend. As a result, 79 other employees had to be tested for the virus, and nine direct contacts are in quarantine. According to current information, there should be no infections among the guests.

More infected people on the hotel construction site

A second corona outbreak took place at a hotel. A total of eleven cases are said to have been reported among craftsmen working there. The infected people are said to be in isolation, and other contacts were sent to quarantine. Five of them are still on Sylt, four more have already traveled back to their places of residence in North Rhine-Westphalia and Slovenia and are there in quarantine, as a district spokeswoman told the NDR.

It remains to be seen whether further infections will follow. Rising corona numbers are currently being noted across Germany. The intensive care units should also be more full again, so that doctors warn against overloading. For this reason, the RKI has once again called for compliance with hygiene and distance regulations and for reducing unnecessary contacts – this also applies to vaccinated people.
