Corona: Return travelers must be tested from Saturday

Return travelers from risk areas must be tested for a possible infection with the corona virus from Saturday.

Entrants from risk areas are obliged to be tested for possible infection with the coronavirus on their return to Germany from Saturday (August 8, 2020). The Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (40) announced on Thursday during a press conference. Violators face high fines.

Spahn was aware that this regulation was equivalent to an interference with the freedoms of individuals, but at the same time also reminded that every citizen bears joint responsibility for the good of others. There should be suitable test stations in particular at airports, but corresponding alternatives are also planned for other travelers.

Test and quarantine

The list of risk countries maintained by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) includes, among other things, popular travel destinations such as Egypt, the Bahamas or the Maldives (as of August 5th). A complete list of countries is available on the RKI homepage.

Since last weekend it has already been possible for return travelers to be tested voluntarily and free of charge. So far, travelers from high-risk areas have to report to their responsible health department and immediately go to quarantine at home for 14 days. Alternatively, a test with a negative result that is not older than 48 hours can be submitted.
