The whole of Switzerland knows the Walliserkanne. Their operators resisted the certificate requirement until the police closed the restaurant in Zermatt. When the three Corona skeptics received guests anyway, they were arrested. Now they are at large again, and the whole country is arguing about whether the police operation was proportionate or not.
Blick also reported prominently about the events and thus met with great interest from the readership: At times it was by far the most frequently viewed article online …
Corona skeptics have long considered the hosts of the Walliserkanne to be martyrs. All of this against the background of powerful appearances by the Freiheitstrychler, corona protests with thousands of participants and, last but not least, an intense and costly campaign by opponents of the new Covid law, which will be voted on on November 28th.
If you just read the headlines, you might think the whole country is in a pre-revolutionary mood.
But be careful: to draw the conclusion from the Ramazamba around the Walliserkanne and the never-ending corona demonstrations that Switzerland is rejecting the Federal Council’s Covid course would be completely wrong. As a clairvoyant Blick reader wrote these days: “This is a minority that screams the loudest.”
The numbers prove him right:
- Covid law: According to the latest surveys, approval is 69 percent. Only the SVP fights the law. But even among their voters, a remarkable 37 percent are in favor.
- Vaccination rate: Switzerland is mocked by many as a vaccine snail. However, today 75 percent of those over twelve have been vaccinated at least once – which is not that bad either. A year ago nobody would have dared to dream of such a value.
Next week, our country is facing another offensive to defeat the pandemic, a national week of action under the motto: “Every vaccination counts.” In well-frequented places you will be able to get spontaneous advice and vaccinations, there are vaccination taxis, vaccination trams, vaccination nights, vaccination concerts …
More than 80 celebrities from culture, sport, politics and business are promoting this effort again. The cabaret duo Ursus & Nadeschkin justifies their engagement as follows: “When our audience is vaccinated, laughter can finally infect again!”
This vaccination week is worth a try. Statistically speaking, 150 additional vaccinations prevent admission to the intensive care unit. However, nobody knows for sure whether everyone who wants has not been vaccinated for a long time. So success is uncertain.
One thing is clear: the vast majority of the Swiss people follow the voices of reason in the Corona debate.
Even if the others are louder.
