A few weeks ago, Biontech / Pfizer announced that the corona vaccine had been successfully tested in children between the ages of five and eleven and was about to be approved. The vaccination committee of the US drug agency FDA has now recommended emergency approval – is there any planning for Germany as well?

The FDA scientist Peter Marks spoke out in favor of the approval of the Biontech / Pfizer corona vaccine for children: Younger children would be “anything but spared,” he said, according to “Die Zeit”.

In the age group of five to eleven year olds, 1.9 million corona infections and 100 deaths were registered in the USA. More than 8,300 sick children were treated in hospitals – a third of the cases in the intensive care unit.

However, the approval process does not end with the recommendation. The drug authority now has to decide on the recommendation of the vaccination committee. As a rule, however, the FDA follows the recommendations – an emergency approval is therefore likely. The CDC health authority must then make a vaccination recommendation before the vaccine can be used.

Is the corona vaccine coming in Germany now?

The decision is to be made on November 2nd and 3rd. The US government is hoping for a quick clearance so that they can start an extensive vaccination campaign within the coming month.

When exactly it will be so far in Germany that the vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer will be approved for five to eleven year olds is not yet clear. The approval for the EU is already running, but there is still no specific date of the examination.

In addition, the Standing Vaccination Commission had already hesitated to recommend the vaccine for children and adolescents between the ages of twelve and 17. Only recently, paediatricians warned against putting political pressure on families with children under the age of twelve.
