Covid-19: at least 500,000 people potentially isolated at Christmas

Many French people could spend Christmas in isolation. According to the estimates of the Health Insurance, about 500,000 people would be unable to see the world for the end of the year holidays.

A few days before New Year’s Eve, France has never experienced such a number of Covid-19 cases since May 2020, when the Sidep system which makes it possible to monitor the number of positive cases on a daily basis was created, recalled the JDD .

With an average of more than 52,000 cases since December 16, France is increasingly affected by the Omicron variant, which would represent 20% of new infections.

According to the Health Insurance regulations, the isolation of patients must last 10 days, from the first symptoms, or from the positive test, depending on the case. Any symptomatic or positive person since December 16 will not have, if they respect the sanitary rules, the possibility of spending Christmas with their family.

A significant figure which still represents 1% of the population. Not to mention the contact cases, forced to isolate themselves from time to time to know their condition.
