Covid-19: more and more clusters in prisons


The sanitary situation of prisons worries the unions of prison supervisors. And for good reason: according to the latest figures, 370 inmates out of 70,000 are currently positive for the coronavirus. That’s 47 more in just five days.

Prison staff is also affected with 448 contaminations among the 40,000 staff members.

The prison of Perpignan, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, has been identified as a major source of contamination.

In this establishment, 110 cases have been detected to date, while there are 700 people on site, detainees and guards combined.
