Cybercriminals are banking on the return of Covid to steal personal data. The editorial staff received several phishing SMS alerting us to the expiration of the Vitale card. This scam is well known and claims that it must be renewed to “ maintain your rights » from Health Insurance. The scammers add a prevention message linked to the return of the Covid epidemic, “ Let’s remain vigilant, Covid-19 is still here ”, to give more legitimacy to their scam.
The SMS links to a Health Insurance clone site, on which the target is asked for their personal and banking information to order a new card. The fraudulent platform claims that “ the vital card must be updated annually by its beneficiary “.
The scam site is still active. The domain name “cpam-masante[.]info” was created on November 26. As for the phishing SMS, it is sent from a simple 06, which should alert you. Remember that the Carte Vitale is provided for an indefinite period and therefore does not need to be renewed.
Why are you receiving these phishing text messages?
In March 2022, the personal data of more than 500,000 French people were leaked, after the compromise of several emails from medical organizations. Health Insurance had reported this hack. The hackers obtained the identity data (surname, first name, date of birth, sex) of 510,000 people, their Social Security numbers as well as data relating to rights (treating doctor, allocation of complementary health insurance or social security). state medical aid…).
