Crdit Mutuel Alliance Fdrale launches into quantum with IBM

Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale, which brings together 14 of the 18 federations of the group, announced on Tuesday the launch of an exploration phase of quantum computing, the potential power of which is immense, with IBM.

This association includes the study of the applicability of quantum computing to the use cases of banking and insurance as well as the development of a prototype, specifies Crdit Mutuel Alliance Fdrale in a press release.

Initially, the bank’s employees can be trained on this new technology, still in its infancy, to lay the foundations of an organization ready to take full advantage of quantum technology.

Quantum computers use the extraordinary properties of matter on the scale of the atom or the particle. They are called to revolutionize computing by multiplying by several orders of magnitude the speed of calculation for certain types of operations.

But these machines have not yet reached the working prototype stage, because researchers and engineers still have to solve very complicated problems of stabilizing these processors operating on the scale of the infinitely small. No one knows exactly when these machines will actually be operational, with estimates ranging from a few years to 20 years or more.

For now, developers and programmers are training to design applications running on quantum simulators, that is, computers using conventional processors to imitate the operation of a quantum computer.
