Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Manchester United

Manchester United announced on Friday August 27 an agreement with Juventus Turin for the recruitment of Cristiano Ronaldo, who will return to a club where he won eight major trophies from 2003 to 2009. This transfer is still subject to a final agreement with the 36-year-old Portuguese striker and his medical examination.

Financial details of the deal between Manchester United and Juve have not been spelled out but the transfer amount is expected to rise to € 25m, which is the figure Juventus wants.

Champions League goal

Cristiano Ronaldo, five-time Ballon d’Or winner, left Manchester United in 2009 for Real Madrid and a record amount, at the time, of more than 90 million euros, before joining Juventus in 2018.

The Portuguese remains on three seasons for Juventus marked by his failures in the Champions League, his favorite competition. His arrival makes Manchester United one of the big favorites for the European title this season, alongside Manchester City and PSG. The Citizens were initially approached to sign the superstar, especially as they are looking for a striker. But the Red Devils were the quickest to draw an offer that meets the demands of Juventus, with whom the Portuguese was linked until 2022. The team coached by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hit the market hard this summer with the signing of Jadon Sancho and Raphaël Varane, before that of Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Cristiano was a legend of this club. He’s the greatest player of all time if you ask me ”, declared Friday the Norwegian manager, who was the teammate of CR7 at United between 2003 and 2007. Ronaldo arrived Friday afternoon in Lisbon to prepare with his selection the playoff matches for the World-2022. He could make his United debut after returning from the international break on September 11 against Newcastle.

His transfer continues a crazy summer in the transfer window which also saw his former Barça rival, Lionel Messi, join PSG.
