Croatia: A bus accident leaves twelve dead and 32 injured


VARAZDIN, Croatia, Aug 6 (Reuters) – Twelve people were killed and 32 others injured, 19 seriously, in a bus crash in northwestern Croatia on Saturday morning, Croatian police said .

The police added that rescue teams had been deployed to the scene of the accident where traffic was cut off and that the bus concerned was registered in Poland.

“All the victims are Polish citizens, we can confirm that at this stage,” a spokesman for the Polish foreign minister told Polish TVN24, adding that the bus was registered in Warsaw.

According to the Croatian Interior Ministry, the bus passengers were adult pilgrims on their way to Medjugorje, a Catholic pilgrimage site in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina.
