The Swedish royals have been spending the summer on the island of Öland for many years. Victoria and Daniel want to move now.

The Swedish royal family has been spending their summer holidays on the island of Öland in southern Sweden for many years. Crown Princess Victoria (43) and Prince Daniel (47) are now making other plans for their family, as reported by the Swedish magazine “Svensk Damtidning”. Accordingly, the family wants to set up a new summer residence on an island closer to Stockholm.

The magazine cites a report in the local newspaper “Nacka Värmdö Posten” from June 18, according to which the Crown Princess is said to have bought a plot of land on the island of Värmdö in the region of the same name last year. The palace spokeswoman Margareta Thorgren confirmed the purchase to the newspaper. “You intend to build a private holiday home there.”

Close to home in Stockholm

The island is only around 40 kilometers from Haga Castle in Stockholm, where Victoria and Daniel live with their two children, Princess Estelle (9) and Prince Oscar (5). In contrast to Öland, which is around 450 kilometers away, it is perfect for short weekend trips and holidays, confirmed Thorgren. Värmdö also promises more space and privacy than Öland, where Victoria and Daniel share Villa Skönvik with Victoria’s siblings Prince Carl Philip (42) and Princess Madeleine (39). Nevertheless, the Crown Princess and her husband will probably continue to join the family on summer vacation on Öland.
