c’t Photography 1/2022: Luxury hiding spots for animal photographers

Eagles fishing in the icy lake. Foxes pounding on a piece of carrion in the drifting snow. Every amateur wildlife photographer dreams of expressive images in winter. But the hurdles are high. Appropriate contacts to hunting tenants, physical fitness, resistance to cold and suitable clothing are necessary requirements that not everyone has. But that is no reason to forego winter animal motifs. There are now various providers across Europe who rent out permanently installed huts with feeding areas to interested photographers. Depending on your preference, different species of animals and birds come to the hiding places. Some of the huts are right on the lakeshore and allow photos of herons and other water birds. In the current issue 01/2022 of c’t photography, Andreas Babanac reports on his experiences with luxury hiding spots. He also shows what is not possible in this way and why some animals need hiking or an outdoor hide.

Winter motifs without disturbing the animals – Andreas Bobanac shows how you can get creative photos without even having to freeze.

Following the article you will find providers of hiding spots and photo trips in wintry Europe.

Improve photo skills. Niklas Alexander Otto motivates photographers to keep improving by repeatedly taking the same subject. Without pressure you inspire your creativity and practice image composition and perception of details and sharpen your eye for later presentation options.

Cut out with one click. The supreme discipline of image processing can finally be mastered well for laypeople with the new clipping methods of Photoshop. Maike Jarsetz shows how they are used.

Time travel – breaking out of everyday photography. With imagination and creativity, Matthias Matthai brings times to life again. He rents a very special location for the photo project, the Stuttgart Tram Museum.

Instant photo today. Yes, they still exist, the point-and-shoot cameras, but instant photos have long been more than that. Smartphone apps and printers as well as hybrid models complete the portfolio. We tested six devices and their image quality.

Cool bags for photographers. As a professional, Michael Jordan has real demands on the protection of his photo equipment. He checks the eleven bags in our test for security and intended use.
