Just a few months after the release of Poor Things (in original version) and a few weeks after the film’s Oscar nomination, the director reveals his new project to us. In addition to actor Willem Dafoe, we were able to see Emma Stone’s face in the first trailer, and that only bodes well!

When it comes to cinema, the year 2024 hit very hard with the release of a real cinematic UFO from the mind of director Yórgos Lánthimos, namely Poor Things. From the first extracts of the trailer, we felt that the new gem from the filmmaker behind La Favorite and The Lobster had the potential to be an Oscar contender. And this is indeed what happened since the feature film offered its second best actress statuette to Emma Stonehonored in this category for her performance in the film La La Land in 2017.
Beyond this prestigious award, Yórgos Lánthimos’ latest creation left this gala ceremony with more than one trophy. As it happens, the work of the director and his teams was crowned with four awards, including the best sets and artistic direction, the best costumes and the best makeup and hairstyles. In short, it was a brilliant artistic success on many points and its director is already in the starting blocks to reproduce this success with the film Kinds of Kindness. To put all things on his side, Yórgos Lánthimos decided to trust his muses again, including Emma Stone.

A few days ago, the first trailer for the film Kinds of Kindness was unveiled, lifting the veil on a new collaboration between Yórgos Lánthimos and the duo Willem Dafoe / Emma Stone. Much more than these two big names in cinema, we also find very well-known faces who give the cast of this film the appearance of a five-star cast: Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley, Hunter Schafer, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn and Mamoudou Athie . Indeed, on paper, Kinds of Kindness seems particularly attractive, and we will soon have the opportunity to form an opinion since the film is expected, at least in the United States, from June 21.
Compared to Poor Creatures (Poor Thingsin original version), Kinds of Kindness is a very different project. This is not a complete film but of an anthology which will compile three distinct stories in which the actors play a given role which is different each time. From what we know, for the moment and thanks to the synopsis, the film will tell us, in the form of a triptych, the stories of a man who tries to get his life back in hand, of a police officer suddenly worried to see the return of his wife, who had disappeared at sea some time before, and of a determined woman in search of a chosen one who was supposed to become a prodigious spiritual leader. In short, yet another fable that smacks of Yórgos Lánthimos!
