Some players are disappointed with the early access of Darkest Dungeon 2, in some cases it is because of the change of focus of the adventure, without the hamlet, and in others, it is because they hoped for content significantly closer to the final version of the game. In any case, the studio is not discouraged, and their update schedule was revealed on Twitter. It is not exhaustive, improvements are also being made behind the scenes, and other additions may come to flesh out the list. It’s also possible that the developers will encounter some difficulties along the way, so it’s not best to take it at face value just yet.
First update: Mid-February
The first big content patch will arrive next month. It will introduce the lair of creatures, as well as new enemies like spiders, dogs, worms and more. Improvements will be made to the roguelike aspect, encounters, charms and character traits.
Following updates
Five updates will follow before the release, they have no date set for the moment. Considering everything listed, you probably shouldn’t expect a release for at least a year.
- New regions : An area invaded by barnacles, with a new faction. Expect the return of the Fishmen of the Cove, or the like. The valley will be improved and a new region will be added. Each new region has its own den bosses and new enemies.
- Enemies : A marauding boss will be introduced, as well as new cultists.
- Bosses of acts : The game will consist of 5 acts, each with a separate boss, the last of which will only arrive with the release of the game.
- Features : Improvements to the relationship system, stagecoach driving, route, addition of pets, each character’s story skins can be used in the rest of the game.
- New classes : 3 new heroes are planned for the moment. It’s clear that not all of the first game’s alumni will be back for release.
- At the same time, general improvements are made based on player feedback, general balancing is fine-tuned, and new locations are introduced. New lines for the narrator are also planned.
