On Friday a handlebar got on a hiking trail below Dättnau and finally got stuck on a staircase. The driver ran away – it was difficult for the authorities to recover the vehicle.
To recover the vehicle, a cable winch with several pulleys had to be used.

Shortly after 11 a.m., a walker reported to the Winterthur city police that an abandoned car was standing on a steep footpath in Dättnau. When the emergency services arrived, the SUV was still there, but there was no trace of the driver for the time being.
The vehicle was apparently traveling along a forest lane and then down a steep flight of stairs until it got stuck in a tight turn. As it could not be ruled out that the driver had got out of the car and then fell down one of the slopes or injured himself in some other way, a service dog was used to search for the driver.

The search operation and the rescue operation of the vehicle by the professional fire brigade from Schutz & Intervention Winterthur turned out to be challenging because of the steep terrain and the onset of snowfall. A winch with several pulleys had to be used to recover the vehicle.
Some time later, the driver was found uninjured near the scene of the accident. Why the 57-year-old Swiss got into this predicament and moved away from the scene of the accident and whether alcohol was involved is being clarified.
Shortly after 3 p.m., the footpath between Auenrainstrasse and Hündlerstrasse was cleared again. In addition to the fire brigade and police as well as vehicle recovery specialists, the Zurich Forensic Institute was also on duty.
