Dave Prowse, actor in Darth Vader's mask, has died

In the first Star Wars trilogy, Dave Prowse played Darth Vader. The British actor has just passed away at the age of 85.

Little is known about his face, but his build is unforgettable. The actor Dave prowse played Darth Vader in the first trilogy Star wars, between 1977 and 1983. The agency which represented him, Bowington Management, announced this Sunday, November 29, his death on Twitter, at the age of 85 years.

Before playing in Star wars a character who will become cult, Dave Prowse had already played the roles of villains several times, playing the creature of Frankenstein three times in different films: the James Bond Casino Royale, The Horror of Frankenstein, and Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell, remind him Hollywood Reporter. He had also played in the film Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick. Passionate about bodybuilding and measuring 1m98, he had the ideal frame to play two characters in Star wars. When he met him, George Lucas therefore offered to play Darth Vader or Chewbacca. The actor made his choice, arguing that "everyone remembers the bad guy", says AFP.

Dave Prowse's British accent did not suit George Lucas for playing Star Wars' most notorious villain. The actor therefore embodied the body of Darth Vader, while his voice was dubbed by James Earl Jones, causing a conflict between him and Lucasfilm. The role of the Sith Lord was taken over by Sebastian Shaw in Return of the Jedi. However, this did not prevent his first performer from becoming one of the icons of the saga, and still having millions of fans around the world today.

This is why Star Wars is and will remain a cult
