For years, David Garrett has been inspiring with his mix of classical and pop. In an interview, however, he reveals which music he will never play.
If the name David Garrett (41) comes up, the title “child prodigy” is not far away either. On the one hand “flattering” for the star violinist. However, he has done a lot for it since his earliest childhood. “A lot of work paired with discipline have led to a successful result. If the term ‘child prodigy’ comes up for outsiders, then I can only say that I worked very hard for it.”
The 41-year-old won his first competition at the age of five. It was clear early on that he would dedicate his life to music, he explains on the occasion of a campaign by the hearing aid manufacturer Widex. As a sound ambassador, he would like to “sensitize people to the importance of sound in our everyday lives and the effect it has on our joie de vivre”. Music is only the tip of the iceberg, for example “the background noise in the forest when you go for a walk or the sound of the sea” transports emotions for him: “The subject of hearing is so multifaceted and all the different sounds have a great influence on ours Well-being. “
Music should bring people together
The star violinist, who is celebrated at his concerts for his mix of rock and pop, also switches between musical styles privately. “I don’t play different music genres for any reason, any music genre is part of my everyday life,” he explains. And what music would he never play? “Any music that stirs up hatred. I think music should bring people together and not apart.”
He also wants to achieve that at his concerts. “Celebrating this we-feeling on stage together with the fans makes you incredibly happy.” His long-awaited “Alive” tour starts in January. “Of course there is always the opportunity to play individual concerts, and I enjoy them to the fullest. But nothing can be compared to a tour, to travel around the area with your bandmates and to inspire the fans with our music”, says happily Garrett right now.
With his music, he now delights fans all over the world. Garrett believed in his success from the start. “To 100 percent, because if you work hard and give everything, you can only be successful. And if it is only your own success that you are satisfied with yourself.”
