DC Announces Remake of One of the Greatest Superhero Movies of All Time

During San Diego Comic-Con, DC Comics Studios announced the production of several animated feature films, including a new adaptation of Watchmen.

While attention is currently focused on the reboot of the franchise orchestrated by James Gunn, DC Comics studios remind us that they are also known for the adaptation in animation of their most famous superheroic adventures.

Over the years, famous comics such as The Dark Knight Returns or Superman Red Son have been adapted into animated feature films, most often in full respect of the original work. And this tradition will not be abandoned by DC, despite the plans drawn up by James Gunn to give the franchise a brand new start!

Thus, during a panel organized at Comic-Con in San Diego, DC studios confirmed that two new animated feature films would soon see the light of day, intended for streaming platforms (and the DVD / Blu-ray market).

In particular an adaptation of the cult comic book Crisis on Infinite Earthsalready adapted in live action by the mega-crossover of the Arrowverse series!

A new adaptation of Watchmen!

But that’s not all, since DC studios have also announced the production of an animated feature Watchmen, adapted from the eponymous comic book by Alan Moore and David Gibbons. In a dystopian future, former superheroes reunite following the assassination of one of their own by a mysterious serial killer…

This new adaptation of the comics expected for 2024 will be unveiled the year which will also mark the fifteenth anniversary of the release of the film Watchmen by Zack Snyder, considered one of the best superhero feature films of all time.

The short film Watchmen: Tales of the Black Vessel was designed as a complement to Zack Snyder’s film

Note that it will not be strictly speaking the first adaptation of Watchmen in animated film, since the animated short film Watchmen: Tales of the Black Vessel, adapted from the story parallel to the main plot of the comics, was provided in the bonuses of the Ultimate edition of Zack Snyder’s film.

The two new animated films Crisis on Infinite Earths and Watchmen will be available in 2024 on Amazon Prime Video, via the Pass Warner subscription.
