  • Normal train services between Brig and the Italian city of Domodossola may resume in the next few days.
  • Italy has extended the implementation deadline for the required new fire protection measures for railway tunnels by another year.
  • It was initially announced on Friday that 38 train connections would be discontinued. That is now obsolete.

A corresponding permit from the Italian Ministry for Rail Safety arrived at the SBB on Sunday afternoon, as an SBB spokeswoman explained at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. The deadline for implementing the fire protection measures required by the Italian authorities has been extended until December 31, 2024.

Regular operation only after a few days

However, the trains between Upper Valais and Domodossola will not run normally again from January 1st, said the SBB spokeswoman. It takes a certain amount of lead time. However, we will try to fully resume operations as quickly as possible. This is likely to be the case over the next week.

Legend:

The 38 weekly intercity and interregio train connections from Brig to Domodossola can still be operated. The necessary approval is now available.
