US envoy to Iran Robert Malley and Iranian negotiator Ali Bagheri began indirect talks through the EU on Tuesday in the Qatari capital, with a view to unblocking the Vienna talks on Iran’s nuclear deal. “If the US side has serious intentions and is realistic, an agreement is possible at this stage.Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said during his visit to Turkmenistan, according to remarks reported by the official Irna news agency on Wednesday. “we are seriousin our desire to reach an agreement, he said elsewhere, stressing that his country would not give in on the “red linesasked by Tehran in the context of these negotiations.

The EU hopes that these discussions between the two enemy countries, which have not had diplomatic relations since 1980, will make it possible to unblock the negotiations in Vienna – also including Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom and the Germany – stalled for three months. Americans and Iranians accuse each other of preventing a return to the international agreement concluded in 2015, imposing limitations on the Iranian nuclear program in exchange for a gradual lifting of international sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

The Revolutionary Guards

In 2018, Donald Trump’s United States unilaterally withdrew from the agreement and reinstated US economic sanctions. In response, the Iranians began to free themselves from the commitments dictated by the pact called JCPOA. The US administration of Joe Biden says it wants to return to the agreement if Tehran renews its commitments, but Iran is demanding the lifting of sanctions as well as guarantees that Washington will no longer withdraw from the JCPOA. Iran has also called for the removal of the regime’s ideological army, the Revolutionary Guards, from the US list of “terrorist organizations“, without it being officially presented as a”Red line“.

We hope to reach, God willing, a positive and acceptable agreement if the United States abandons the Trump method, which was not in accordance with international law.Iranian government spokesman Ali Bahadori-Jahromi said Wednesday. The optimism aroused by the talks in Doha translated into a sharp appreciation of the Iranian currency on the black market on Wednesday, according to money changers in the countries.
