Death in custody in Bergerac: autopsy confirms natural death

By Grégoire Morizet

Sunday January 9, a man died at the police station. His autopsy confirms a natural cause

The results fell on Tuesday, January 11. These are natural causes which led to the death of a man, at the Bergerac (Dordogne) police station, while in police custody. These analyzes show that he suffered in particular from cancer of the digestive system at an advanced stage.

He was arrested on Saturday January 8 for acts of domestic violence. First taken to Bergerac hospital, he met a doctor there. The latter had not raised any incompatibility of his condition with a placement in police custody, and had prescribed medication to treat his pathology. He was found dead in his cell the next morning.

By confirming the natural causes of the death of the 55-year-old man, the autopsy means that no third party intervened. Other analyzes will still be carried out, in order to further investigate the reasons for this death. In addition to toxicological analyzes, anatomopathological analyzes will be carried out.
