Death of Claude Véga, father of modern imitation

VSLaude Vega has passed away. The comedian and actor died on Monday April 11 in Paris, AFP learned from his press officer. He was 91 years old. “He had been very tired for several weeks, he left quietly,” Arlette Goupy, his press secretary, told AFP. He died at Bichat Hospital. Born Claude Thibaudat, he had his heyday in the 1970s and 1980s.

Claude Véga was the first man to embody female celebrities on stage, like Barbara, and performed at Bobino, opening for Edith Piaf and Charles Trénet. He was then regularly invited to television, for example in the very popular programs of Maritie and Gilbert Carpentier.

Childhood friend of François Truffaut, he had a role, that of a disturbing strangler, in the film Marital home (1970) by the filmmaker. At 60, he stopped imitation to devote himself to theatre, his other passion, along with drawing. He is particularly successful with Piaf, I love you at the Cirque d’hiver (1996), a show that received two nominations for the Molières. Claude Véga was an officer in the Order of Arts and Letters.
