Death of rugby player Jordan Michallet at 29: the hypothesis of a privileged suicide

29-year-old rugby player Jordan Michallet was announced dead on Tuesday January 18 by his Rouen club. Several sources evoke a track favored by the police to explain this death as tragic as early.

The news spread like wildfire yesterday and sent shockwaves through French rugby. The Rouen club, which plays in pro D2, announced on social networks the tragic and sudden disappearance of its player, Jordan Michallet. The fly-half died aged just 29. The National Rugby League (LNR) reacted immediately on Twitter, addressing “his most sincere condolences to his family, his loved ones, his Rouen club and his teammates”. The deceased, who had worn the colors of four different clubs during his career, was also honored by his former team FC Grenoble Rugby. “Jordan had joined the FCG in 2007. He was part of this generation of 93, champions of France Reichel with the FCG in 2013. His departure leaves a deep void for all those who met him, teammates, educators and friends”, could we read.

The trail of a suicide is emerging

Still, the circumstances of the death of the young rugby player have remained mysterious until now. But according to several colleagues, including AFP and RMC Sport, it could be suicide. A hypothesis followed in high priority by the police. A source cited, belonging to the police, also indicates: “All the elements suggest three successive suicide attempts, the last having unfortunately succeeded”. The public prosecutor of Rouen, Frédéric Teillet, quoted by our colleagues from RMC, confirms that Jordan Michallet certainly killed himself.

The young rugby player would have thrown himself from a building

He further specifies that his body was found at the foot of a building under construction, and that he could have voluntarily fallen from the fourth floor. The reasons that would have pushed the player to commit this desperate act are still difficult to elucidate. It is also added that the former champion of Federal 1 Rouennais had been involved in a road accident shortly before this very probable suicide.
