French designer Thierry Mugler died on Sunday at the age of 73. A pioneer of spectacular haute couture shows, he left his mark on the fashion world.
He leaves behind iconic pieces and a vision of the daring “Mugler woman”, offering structured and sophisticated silhouettes. Among his signature pieces, the bustier, suits with accentuated shoulders, his interplay of materials – from metal to rubber via leather – or even his metallic dresses have undeniably left their mark on the world of fashion, from which he had retired in 2002 after thirty years of career.
The bustier, its star piece
Thierry Mugler has made the bustier an inseparable part of his universe. Among them, the Harley Davidson body bustier, a tribute to American cars and motorcycles of the 1950s, marked its era, among other pieces combining audacity, glamor and plunging necklines.
