Decathlon makes us dream with its Magic Bike 2.0 electric bike concept

The second Magic Bike (2.0) from Decathlon offers an urban electric bike suitable for family hikes and connected, close to a future model to come?

In 2022, Decathlon had surprised its world and especially that of cycling with a concept. Yes, a concept bike, or concept-bike, is very rare, and the French brand imagined the bike of our short-term future. In 2023, Decathlon is reissuing with the Magic Bike 2.0, and a new idea in mind.

The future Decathlon urban bike in filigree?

Here, Decathlon has based its Btwin concept on a modern but fairly classic city bike. At least in appearance, because it does not exist today in the range. With an open, rigid frame, with a sleek hanger without a screen (the display goes through an application), this machine is different from the new LD 920 E, more typical VTC. However, it seems closer to a production bike than the first generation concept. Could this be a preview of the future urban VAE?

In any case, it integrates its battery into the frame while the central motor flanks a curious “Natural Adaptivity” on the bottom bracket and chain guard. This “natural adaptability” could come from the automatic gearbox block of the LD 920 E, developed with the Belgian E2 Drives. The only certainty is that a “Magic Mode” usable via app adapts the management of autonomy to the route and its elevations, a bit like an Iweech. The designers have also included a braking energy recovery system, which would increase autonomy “up to 30%”.

A complete Decathlon trekking bike

Surprisingly without front suspension or saddle, this VAE has a wide front fork which could, with the large Pirelli Cinturato tires, absorb vibrations and road imperfections well. Surprise yes, because the Decathlon Magic Bike 2.0 is intended for trekking, and especially for family getaways. It adopts ample mudguards, the front one integrating the lighting, plush rear and front luggage racks, as well as a trailer. Because the goal is to transform the bike into a family bike without having to buy a cargo bike.

The latter comes to make this electric bike family, and as “an invitation to travel”. The trailer has an attachment to the bicycle frame, with a “cocoon” metal structure but open with pockets, a side space for large objects, a possible plastic canopy, and of course a honeycomb child seat. The tires are Schwalbe Big Bonkers, with brown sidewalls imitating the Pirelli of the VAE. The Decathlon Magic Bike 2.0 makes the trailer practical, serving as a rear luggage rack, or for attaching a toddler’s small bike.

Still in the spirit of travel and long distances (hence the LD of some B’Twins), the concept offers an additional battery. The first integrated has a connector visible by sliding a plastic cover, where the second can be attached to it in addition to a strap, in order to provide 50 km of additional autonomy.

When is this future Decathlon escape electric bike?

This concept bike is not for sale, but promises great things for the future of the Decathlon Btwin range. The half-urban, half-trekking bike could quickly find its place in the catalog, just like the accessories present here. However, the brand does not communicate for the moment on a date, and even less on price.
