The future of FCZ coach Bo Henriksen has been discussed for weeks. Now FC Zurich has made it clear: the Dane, who celebrates his 49th birthday on Wednesday, will train the fifth-place team in the Super League until the end of the season. After that they go their separate ways.

In the last two months, “constructive discussions” were held with Henriksen, which also included the “strategic realignment of FC Zurich,” the FCZ wrote in a statement on Wednesday morning. There was no common ground found with the coach. “That’s why Bo Henriksen told us that he doesn’t want to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season,” writes the 2022 Swiss champion.

I had and still have a magical time at this football club.

«I have made this decision and feel that it is time for new challenges. “I had and am having a magical time at this football club,” Henriksen is quoted as saying. Henriksen’s goal at FCZ remains to achieve European business.

FCZ have not won in 7 games

Henriksen took over the coaching position at Zurich in October 2022 as the successor to the dismissed German Franco Foda. As the then Swiss champions, the FCZ went through a crisis with 10 league games without a win. Under the new coach, the team stabilized and clearly left the relegation zone behind.

However, Zurich is currently in crisis after a strong start to the season (2nd place after 16 rounds; only 2 points behind YB). The FCZ has been waiting for a complete success for 7 games. Most recently there was a 3-0 defeat at promoted team Yverdon. Henriksen missed that game due to a bad case of flu.
