Real Madrid stalls Kroos on contract decision

Toni Kroos could officially be out of contract during the European Football Championship. At least that’s the situation for DFB returnees at the moment. There are many signs pointing to an extension at Real Madrid, but the club denies that it has already happened.
According to a report, the formal decision on Toni Kroos’ contract extension at Real Madrid will not come until April or May. The club believes it is right to wait until then to extend players’ contracts, wrote the Spanish sports newspaper “Marca”. Everything indicates that the 34-year-old will play another season with the Royals, but like last season, it is not yet time to announce a contract extension.
When asked on Wednesday, Real Madrid’s press office also denied that the contract had already been extended. “As soon as that is the case, you would be able to see it on the club’s website,” said a spokeswoman.
“Therein lies the doubt”
However, “Marca” is not completely sure about Toni Kroos’ future with the Madrilenians. The midfielder has not spoken openly about whether he wants to continue playing football at the highest level or not. “His participation in the European Championships might suggest this… or not. Therein lies the doubt,” the newspaper wrote.
Kroos recently said that he would make the decision to continue his Real career like last year. “There’s no problem there. I made a late decision last year too,” he said a week ago to the German national team.
The 2014 world champion made a strong comeback in the selection of the German Football Association in the recent victories against France (2:0) and the Netherlands (2:1). Kroos moved from FC Bayern Munich to Real almost ten years ago and, among other things, won the Champions League four times with the Madrid club. Last year he had also extended his expiring contract for one season, and the decision was announced in June.
