Desire for “blood and revenge”: torture of Moscow terror suspects underscores brutality

Desire for “blood and revenge”
Torture of Moscow terror suspects highlights brutality

Shortly after the terrorist attack near Moscow, the Russian security authorities presented the suspected attackers with signs of brutal torture. According to a report, the spread of torture practices is not only intended to deter further extremists. Above all, it should satisfy the thirst for revenge.

The Russian authorities are said to have deliberately flaunted the torture of suspects in the terrorist attack near Moscow. Just hours after the arrest of the suspected shooters was announced, photos and videos of those arrested showing signs of brutal torture were already circulating. Like security officials now tell the Russian portal Verstka tell us, these images were deliberately distributed. They were instructed by their superiors to emphasize in the videos the brutality with which those arrested were “treated.” The publication was “sanctioned,” it said. The footage should also be distributed as widely as possible.

“Burned eggs and a cut ear – that’s just the beginning. Next, the fingers are cut off, one after the other. This is a preventative measure,” says an agent involved in the investigation. “I want these wimps to know that there are no virgins waiting for them in heaven. This kind of demonstration will make a lot of people think twice about the consequences and stop them from making a bad decision.” Another agent has another explanation: “The population wants blood and revenge, and that’s exactly what we’re showing them.”

When they were brought before the magistrate, the defendants were seen in a disastrous condition. Their faces are very swollen, have clearly visible bruises, swelling, abrasions and lacerations. One of them was apparently unable to walk and was strapped into a hospital chair with his eyes closed. Another had a bandage on his right ear that seemed less than professional. Before the court hearing, video footage was circulated online showing that the arrested men were tortured and one of them even had his ear cut off. He was even said to have been forced to eat his cut ear.

Search for missing persons stopped
