Diego Maradona has found his final resting place in Buenos Aires. The football star, who only died on Wednesday, was buried on Thursday in the Argentine capital in a private cemetery on the outskirts. Tens of thousands of fans lined the streets to pay their last respects to their idol in the previous funeral procession from the city center to the grave. Not all fans were able to personally say goodbye to the body laid out in front of them, which resulted in tumult and riots.

Maradona had been in poor health for many years

Diego Armando Maradona Franco died on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60 from complications from a heart attack. A few weeks earlier he had to have a blood clot removed from his brain in an emergency operation. The football idol's health had been bad for many years. Maradona has struggled with heart problems and being very overweight since the 1990s. He was also addicted to alcohol and drugs for a long time.

Maradona is considered to be one of the best footballers of all time. One of his greatest triumphs is certainly winning the 1986 World Cup with Argentina. In his homeland and in Naples, Italy, where he played for the local SSC for many years, Maradona is worshiped almost like god. His dubious closeness to the Mafia and other criminal organizations never changed that. There is currently an ordered state mourning in Argentina.
