Digital Extremes Announces Soulframe

Nine years after the release of WarframeDigital Extremes embarks on a new adventure with soul frame. If for the moment no release date has been announced, we do know that the game will be free-to-play and that it should be available on PC and consoles, if it follows in the footsteps of its predecessor.

Soulframe presents itself as an MMORPG with a fantastic universe going the opposite of Warframe which made us evolve in a futuristic world. Soulframe being still at the very beginning of its development, little information has leaked out about the story and the gameplay. However, according to Steve Sinclair, Creative Director of Warframe, this new title will address themes of nature and the sometimes destructive influence that humanity has on it, but also of reconstruction and exploration.

Gameplay-wise, Soulframe moves away from Warframe’s third-person shooter style. Here, the fights will be less frantic and will rather be played in melee. On the other hand, as with its elder, cooperation between players should be of great importance.

Finally, we will also find the procedural generation of levels. The will here being to make the players feel the anger of nature towards humanity. Thus, the players should have under their eyes environments in perpetual evolution. It remains to be seen how the developers will succeed in integrating this into the game. Because if on paper the idea of an evolving nature around the players is interesting, its application may be more complicated.
