Receiving the Knight Grand Cross is a great honor in Great Britain: filmmaker Ridley Scott was now delighted to receive the medal.

2003 was Ridley Scott (86) knighted by Queen Elizabeth II (1926 – 2022). Over twenty years later, the British director and film producer can look forward to another award from the British royal family – this time from the hands of the current heir to the throne, Prince William (41). On Wednesday (May 8th), the grandson of the late monarch appointed the 86-year-old Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire. Scott is the recipient of the highest British Order of Merit.

Awarded for his contributions to the film industry

Photos from the ceremony at Windsor Castle show Scott proudly accepting his new medal from Prince William. The British royal family honored the director of cult films such as “Alien”, “Blade Runner” and “Gladiator” for his services to the film industry in the United Kingdom.

At the end of 2023, King Charles III. (75) has already announced with the list of the so-called “New Year Honors” that Scott can look forward to the new honor this year. The honor is given every year to people from public life or private individuals who have made a special contribution to the service of society.

Together with Ridley Scott, several other people were also awarded an Order of Merit: Among others, the British soccer player Mary Earps (31) and the British soccer legend Peter Shilton (74) were also honored with an order and the title of “Member of the Order of the British Empire”.

Prince William has further royal appointments coming up in the next few days: According to the Daily Mail He will be in the Duchy of Cornwall on Thursday and Friday for a two-day visit. It is the first time he has stayed out overnight since his wife, Princess Kate, 42, was diagnosed with cancer.
