Dirty bathroom grout? It’s that easy to get them clean again

Despite regular cleaning, it can happen that the tile joints in the bathroom get dark discoloration. This is sometimes due to deposits of lime, mold and dirt. You don’t have to use expensive special cleaning agents to make the gaps shine bright white again. We reveal which home remedies are suitable instead. In the video you can also see which mistakes you should better avoid in the bathroom.

Almost everyone knows it when the joints in the spaces between the tiles show dark discoloration that is difficult to remove. Usually it is deposits of dirt, dust and lime that get stuck in the depressions; if you see greasy black dots or stains, it is usually mold that is spreading in the joints due to the damp bathroom climate.

You can find numerous special cleaners for this in hardware stores and online, but they are often overpriced. Alternatively, you can use conventional home remedies, which you ideally already have at home or can buy in any drugstore or supermarket for little money.

  • With sandpaper: The best way to remove dirt and stubborn mold stains is to use a very fine abrasive or sandpaper clean that is usually in every tool box. To do this, place a small piece on the affected area and gently rub it with a finger or two to remove the dirt.
But be careful: Be careful that the sandpaper does not touch the tiles, otherwise scratches will occur.
  • With baking powder: Take conventional baking paper and mix it with lukewarm water to create a creamy paste.
Alternatively, you can use baking soda or soda. You should mix the powder with water in a ratio of 3:1.
Apply the paste to the areas and rub them in with an old toothbrush.Leave the baking soda on the grout for up to 60 minutes, the soda for a maximum of 30 minutes and wipe off the rest with lukewarm water and a sponge.

notice: Vinegar and citric acids are also popular. However, the acid it contains attacks the joints and causes them to become porous over time. It is therefore better to use one of the methods above.

To prevent mold from forming in the future, you should ensure that the bathroom is well ventilated after showering or bathing. It also helps to dry the joints with a cloth. It is ideal to have your bathroom deep-cleaned and maintained regularly by professionals such as tile and grout cleaning seattle to restore tile and grout to like-new condition.
