DFor more than a week, the disappearance of Héléna Cluyou has given rise to great emotion in Brest. The investigation into the disappearance of the young 21-year-old student experienced an “acceleration” on Sunday February 5. The Brest prosecutor Camille Miansoni indicated that a suspect had evoked a “stupidity” and an “accident”, before attempting suicide. This Tuesday, February 7, a new search was carried out in the apartment of the main suspect. Investigators seized numerous objects and clothing to search for possible DNA and biological traces of the missing person.

The Parisian painted the portrait of Sylvain L., the main suspect, by questioning his relatives. One element stands out: the man is renowned for his nocturnal excesses. The 36-year-old from Brest completed a stint in the Foreign Legion before starting training as a cook. This man, childless, then worked in several restaurants in the city. If, at work, he is presented as a “seducer, playful and smiling” by relatives, at night, Sylvain is known for his excessive consumption of alcohol and narcotics. This regular of Brest nights is described by one of his former girlfriends as a man “unstable, without limits when he was partying, but not violent”.

Suspect ‘used to drive while intoxicated’

In January, the suspect’s neighbors contacted the gendarmerie on suspicion of domestic violence in his apartment after hearing the screams of his new partner. The latter would have temporarily left him. Then she came the evening of Héléna Cluyou’s disappearance. After scouring several bars in Brest with friends, the band split up. “Sylvain used to go out there and often drive home in a state of intoxication”, assures one of his acquaintances to the newspaper. A few days later, the man was seen by one of his neighbors with “drawn features and disheveled hair” driving his car, which was found the next day charred.

Hospitalized in the intensive care unit, the suspect’s life is in danger. Employed in the restoration, he has a clean criminal record. Héléna Cluyou, a young student nurse who should have celebrated her 21st birthday on February 1, has not given any sign of life since Sunday January 29 at 5:20 a.m., when she left the One Club, a nightclub in the port of Brest. She is still nowhere to be found more than a week after her disappearance. A CCTV image, taken at 6:42 a.m., shows her walking down a street in Brest between the nightclub and her grandparents’ home, where she lived.
