This week Kate and Gerry McCann celebrated a sad event, the 16th anniversary of the disappearance of their daughter Maddie McCann in Rothley, Leicestershire. We were able to see for the first time in years the little sister of the disappeared.
It’s a tragic anniversary which was celebrated this week. That of the kidnapping of Madeleine McCann. She disappeared at Praia da Luz in Portugal on May 3, 2007. Kate and Gerry McCann, Maddie’s parents, did everything to find her. Supported by the people of their town of Rothley, Leicestershire, they staged a ceremony in memory of their daughter. During this event, we were able to see for the first time in years, the little sister of the disappeared, Amélie. We could see her lighting a candle in honor of her sister. As she joined her parents and supporters on the 16th anniversary of her disappearance she said: “It’s good that everyone is here together but it’s a sad occasion.”
We can see Amélie, accompanied by her friend Georgina, repeating slogans with the crowd of 70 people. It is in the emotion that she chants “Never give up”, “Do not neglect anything”, “Do not forget me” And “Always carried disappeared“. Amélie, is 18 years old today. She is preparing to continue her studies at university. She has a twin, Sean, who is absent from the ceremony. Very discreet, she has never appeared in public since the disappearance of his sister. This unfortunate event gives a glimpse of what Maddie McCan could look like as an adult.
Where is the investigation into the disappearance of Maddie McCann?
The German police are convinced that Maddie is dead and intends to charge prime suspect Christian Brueckner with his kidnapping and murder. But it recently emerged that the pedophile may never face a trial in this case. The courts do not have enough evidence to prove his guilt. Christian Brueckner, 45, is currently serving a sentence in a German prison for the rape of a tourist American in the same Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in which Maddie disappeared in May 2007. He vehemently denied any involvement in her abduction. Today, no suspect has been charged, which leaves Madeleine’s family in total limbo.
