DISNEY+: Doctor Who, international broadcast dates, new visuals and VF trailer for the 60th anniversary episodes

Since the end of the Chris Chibnall era and the Thirteenth Doctor by Jodie Whittaker, everything has changed for Doctor Who. The return of Russell T Davies at the helm was accompanied by the announcement of the arrival of the series on Disney+ and as November approaches, we look forward to the three special episodes of the 60th anniversary of the license. They were treated to a sensational trailer at the end of September, with the formalization of the role played by Neil Patrick-Harris in particular. However, there remained two major details to know, the first being the date(s) of broadcast of these episodes on BBC One and the second concerning the details for their arrival in the catalog of SVoD, who had not yet communicated generally about the series. Everything happened this week with the occasion putting online a trailer put together with Hollywood sauce, which has something hyper. To see the TARDIS make the “+” of the logo appear Disney+ also has its little effect!

In fact, the BBC announced the dates of the three specials, the titles of which we already knew, which will be offered at the rate of one per week from Saturday November 25, the anniversary date being the 23rd of the month if you don’t know it. And we also have the official French titles:

  • The Star Beast – November 25

  • Wild Blue Yonder / At the edge of the universe – December 2
  • The Giggle / The Toy Maker – November 9

Get ready for three epic adventures, starting with THE STAR BEAST, where the Doctor and Donna will come face to face after all these years, but the how and why is about to be revealed. Followed by WILD BLUE YONDER and THE GIGGLE, viewers are about to embark on a mystical adventure through space and time.

It is on these same dates that we will be able to see them on Disney+even if we do not yet know what shift will be made, because we cannot imagine the episodes being available at the start of the television broadcast, which would leave the possibility of spoiler the end on the networks. At most it will only be a matter of hours and, icing on the cake, French dubbing will be directly offered. Even if fans will favor the English language above all, having the series so accessible in our country without delay is extremely pleasing!

Promotional visuals for each episode were also shared, really very successful and which announce the color. Amusing detail, the Doctor often tends to pose with one hand forward and it is all the more obvious here. Note that the official description of the visuals continues to simply name the furry alien creature The Meep (voiced by Miriam Margolyes), without mentioning the name of the person appearing in the comics, Beep. We also find there the Wrarth Warriorsa funny robot, the Doctor (David Tennant), the Toy maker (Neil Patrick-Harris) and Rose Temple-Noble (Yasmin Finney), whose age questions the temporality of these adventures. Indeed, Donna (Catherine Tate) and Shaun (Karl Collins) got married in the spring of 2010 and actress Yasmin Finney declared that Pink is “a 15-year-old trans girl with an amazing, supportive family,” setting the action at a minimum in 2025, while previous “in our time” events were generally dated to the year of broadcast. Obviously, for a series about time and space travel, this is just a detail.

There BBC has already planned to release these three episodes of the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who on DVD and Blu-ray (with an edition steelbook) on December 11, including various behind-the-scenes bonuses, etc.

Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa 27 10 2023

Season 14 with Ncuti Gatwa in the role of Fifteenth Doctor and all upcoming content will also be available on Disney+, whose subscription will increase at the beginning of November. You can currently subscribe for €8.99 per month or €89.90 per year. Even better, filming for season 15 began last Monday. We simply learned for the moment that an episode was co-written by Kate Herron (director of season 1 of Loki and certain episodes of Sex Education) and Briony Redman, the duo having already worked together on several occasions.

On the other hand, we still don’t know if the previous 13 seasons of the NuWho and special episodes to go with it will be added to the platform. While each can usually be looked at individually, having some references can’t hurt. Obviously, we do not hope to see the 26 classic seasons from 1963 to 1989 nor the 1996 TV movie, which would require significant work, not to mention the fact that some have been lost and no longer exist (or only partially) under this format… In short, only time will tell us more.
