Disney+ would soon launch new streaming channels focused on Star Wars and Marvel


It’s Disney+’s turn to be interested in FAST streaming. According to The Information, the platform plans to launch several streaming channels, centered around the Marvel and Star Wars universes to start. Unsurprisingly, these channels would also contain advertising, even for subscribers to the service.

We can no longer stop the craze for FAST services. Small reminder: FAST, for Free Ad-Supported Television, is a free streaming model paid for by advertising, broadcasting content continuously like traditional television. Recently, we have seen several entertainment players succumb to this new format, such as Google and its 800 free channels on Google TV or, in France, BFM and RMC.

On the traditional streaming side, Amazon has already made a comeback with its free Freevee offer. We must therefore expect that the other giants of the sector, who have also been very interested in advertising for some time, will follow suit. However, there is a good chance that the next on the list will be Disney+. As reported by The Information, it seems that the platform is preparing to launch its own FAST offer.

Disney+ would like to launch free TV channels with advertisements

Still according to The Information, these new channels would be centered around the usual Disney+ universes, starting with Star Wars and Marvel. The latter would thus broadcast series and films taken from these licenses, interspersed with regular advertisements and without it being possible to select the content to be viewed. If the offer works, Disney would then plan to extend the program to other universes, notably its animated classics as well as Pixar films.

On the other hand, the streaming platform would make a rather strange choice regarding its FAST service. The Information explains that you will still need to have a subscription to Disney+ to access it, while this format is usually free. In fact, it will certainly be more difficult for users to swallow to have to view advertisements during their content. Disney has not yet confirmed any of this information. We therefore do not know when this new service will be available.
