The mother of Spanish Football Federation President Luis Rubiales has been hospitalized on the third day of her hunger strike. Angeles Béjar, who started her protest against public criticism of her son on Monday in the Divina Pastora Church in the southern Spanish coastal town of Motril, was taken to the clinic by rescue workers on Wednesday, Father Antonio Rodríguez told reporters.
“I have to tell you that she had a seizure and had to be taken to the hospital. She is no longer here,” he said. Béjar is tired and has many health problems, he added. When asked by AFP news agency, Motril hospital did not confirm that she was admitted as a patient.
Mother demands “truth” from Hermoso
After Spain’s World Cup victory in Sydney on August 20, the head of the Spanish football association RFEF held the head of Spain international Jennifer Hermoso with both hands and kissed her on the mouth. Rubiales’ abusive behavior had sparked international outrage and a crisis in Spanish football.
The world football association Fifa suspended Rubiales on Saturday for an initial period of 90 days. Béjar had said she would refuse to eat until Hermoso “told the truth” about what happened after Spain’s women’s World Cup victory.
