Divorce via WhatsApp?
Not only are terminations pronounced via WhatsApp invalid in this country, you cannot get a divorce via Messenger in Germany either. This was decided by the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt am Main in December 2021.
In this case, a Canadian applied for a divorce from his German wife in his home country and sent the documents to his wife, who now lives back in Germany, via messenger. The judges saw the delivery via this route as “not effective”, a Canadian court had previously seen it differently.
Group admins liable for content?
As an admin of a WhatsApp group, are you liable for the content? A court in India had to clarify this question. In the case, a woman accused the admin of not having taken action against a member of the group that had harassed her.
However, the court acquitted the admin of liability in April 2021 because group admins in Messenger only have “limited power”. However, this could change soon.

A WhatsApp status report, however, was fatal to a 26-year-old in Pakistan. A court sentenced her to death for blasphemy in January 2022. However, it is still unclear whether the judgment will be carried out.
