In order not to leave too much free rein to GoPro in the field of cam actionthe Chinese DJI announces today its Osmo Action 3. This new extreme camera is dedicated to the most intrepid users.

DJI kicks off its announcement press release by telling us about the autonomy of its new camera for adventurers. The latter has a 1,770 mAh battery allowing up to 160 minutes of recording in 1080p / 30 fps, with stabilization cut and screens off, specifies DJI. This battery shines above all for its ability to recharge (it can recover 80% autonomy in 18 minutes) and for its ability to operate at low temperatures (down to -20 degrees).

Beautiful images… perfectly stabilized

Beyond its fast charging, a first on the market for cam action assures DJI, the Osmo Action 3 is also distinguished by its mounting system designed from the start to facilitate the recording of videos in portrait format (vertical). But the most interesting is of course to be found in the field of capture itself.

The new DJI camera is based on a 1/1.7 inch sensor allowing recording in 4K at 120 fps with an ultra-wide-angle FOV of 155° and, above all, a new management system of the heat to avoid overheating, common on this type of product during a long capture in 4K. Note however that this system has been tested in the context of recordings in 4K at 60 fps… and not 120 fps.

The Osmo Action 3 is also able to vary the capture modes to switch to slow motion or TimeLapse modes. Without an additional box, it is also capable of withstanding immersion up to 16 meters on its own. DJI finally announces the presence of three different stabilization modes: RockSteady 3.0 (suitable for 4K/120 fps recording for handheld or bicycle shots for example), HorizonSteady (allows the image to remain perfectly horizontal including during activities such as surfing) and HorizonBalancing, halfway between the two previous modes, designed to give priority to 4K in a dynamic environment.

Plethora of features for vloggers

The Osmo Action 3 is also aimed at vloggers with features and specifications dedicated to them, such as the presence of two touch screens (including one on the front for easy filming) or live Wi-Fi streaming (in 1080p/ 30fps, 720p/30fps or 480p/30fps). It is also possible to use DJI’s new action cam as a webcam for video exchanges at the top if your laptop has a bad camera (which is often the case).

In bulk, the Osmo Action 3 benefits from other practical functions such as the quick change between five personalized modes, support for voice control and voice alerts, x4 digital zoom, or even compatibility with DJI microphones via its USB-C port.

The DJI Osmo Action 3 is sold now on the DJI store from 359 euros, with a battery, the horizontal-vertical protective frame, the quick-release adapter holder and a flat adhesive base.
