Do you miss Homeland? Claire Danes reunites with the creator on a new Netflix series

Netflix greenlights “The Beast In Me,” a miniseries starring Claire Danes, who will also serve as executive producer.

It’s reunion time for Claire Danes and Howard Gordon, the star and creator of Homeland! Netflix has just ordered the mini-series The Beast In Me, as we learn Deadline.

This mystery thriller project will be created by Gabe Rotter, with Howard Gordon as showrunner. It will also be produced by Jodie Foster, who seems to be increasingly interested in the TV and streaming format since her successful participation in True Detective.

A thriller with familiar accents

In The Beast In Me, since the tragic death of her young son, famous author Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes) has withdrawn from public life, unable to write, and become a shadow of her former self. But she finds an unlikely subject for a new book when the house next door is purchased by Nile Sheldon, a formidable real estate mogul once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance.

Both horrified and fascinated by this man, Aggie begins a compulsive search for the truth – chasing his demons while running from hers – in a game of cat and mouse that could prove deadly. It’s hard not to find a certain resonance between the character of Aggie and that of Carrie that Danes composed in Homeland…

A long-awaited project

The origin of The Beast In Me goes back 6 or 7 years. At the time Gabe Rotter – who worked on X-Files, the original series and the reboot – wrote a first screenplay with a male protagonist. After the lack of interest in this script, he proposed changing the gender of the main character, and he rewrote the project with Aggie as the new lead.

The project nevertheless remained in limbo until it was offered to Jodie Foster to play the role of Aggie, direct and produce the series. Interested, she initially agreed to direct and produce the series, but not to star in it.

It was then that Foster suggested the name Claire Danes and sent the script to the actress. The Homeland Emmy winner stepped up and signed on for the role. After a tedious process, The Beast In Me finally landed at Netflix and became a reality when Gordon was signed on as showrunner. With Jodie Foster no longer available to direct due to her schedule, she remained executive producer.

Claire Danes recently starred in the miniseries Anatomy of Divorce. Other recent projects include starring roles in Steven Soderbergh’s Full Circle (available on MyCanal) and The Essex Serpent for Apple TV+. See you in 2025 to discover this new series.
