The American space agency is launching a call for candidates for its experiment aimed at reproducing living conditions on a Martian colony. An experience that should be fascinating for those selected.

One day going to Mars is the ultimate ambition of the Artemis mission program. And the idea is not only to be able to set foot on the red planet for the first time in human history, but also, one day, to install a human colony there, which could survive there. An extremely ambitious project, which must therefore be prepared with great care. Hence the implementation of a simulation by NASA.

See you in 2025

NASA continues to analyze how humans could live on Mars. And to do this, it is launching its second experiment of its kind, the Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA 2), which will begin in 2025 and last one year.

And to do this, it is looking for four candidates who will take place in the Mars Dune Alpha habitat at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston (Texas). The set in which the simulation will take place includes a habitat of 1700 m2 of premises produced by 3D printing, as well as a sandy space of 1200 m2 intended for “outdoor walks. »

A number of conditions imposed

The first team participating in the simulation is already on site, and will remain for approximately six more months. NASA’s objective with CHAPEA-type experiments is to be able to see how humans will live and work on Mars on a daily basis, in particular how they will maintain their living space or grow food.

An exceptional adventure, which will even be paid for. But to participate, NASA issues a certain number of conditions. American citizens who hold a university degree in a scientific field, speak English fluently, and whose age is between 30 and 55 years old will be eligible. You will also need to be able to demonstrate at least two years of professional experience, and around a hundred hours of flight time on an aircraft or two years of work in a scientific doctoral program. Note that a third phase of this program, CHAPEA 3, will be organized later.
