It’s now official after weeks of rumours: Disney+ will exclusively broadcast the Doctor Who series from 2023.
Good pick for Disney+. The American giant has just taken over the rights to broadcast the hit British series Doctor Who internationally, outside the UK, where it will continue to be offered by the BBC. This announcement was just made on Twitter:
We will therefore have to wait until 2023 before discovering season 14 on Disney + and the new reincarnation of Doctor Who which will be camped by the brilliant Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education). On the other hand, it is not yet known whether the platform will in the meantime offer the special episodes which mark the return of David Tennant in the main role.
The entire Doctor Who collection should be available for streaming immediately. This will be an opportunity for fans to get a rewatch of their series and for neophytes, to discover this program with astonishing longevity. Broadcast since 1963 on the BBC, it had a break of 13 years before returning to the small skylight. Until now, it was the NRJ12 channel which had the broadcasting rights in France…
This deal, which will be put in place for 2023, will arrive at the same time as the 60th anniversary of the series. No doubt the BBC will be planning other surprises for fans.
