In everyday life, when we start talking about pets, there are clearly two opposing camps. On the one hand, the dog “team”, which swears only by this faithful companion, man’s best friend, and which sees in the feline only a solitary or even selfish animal.
Opposite, the cat “team” therefore, swooning over the reassuring purrs of their adorable ball of fur, not very sensitive to canine ardour. And the same goes for the cinema, where the characters have also made their choice between these two pets.
Audrey Hepburn, for example, in Diamonds on Sofa decides to take in a charming red alley cat with whom she identifies, she who leads an idle life while waiting to meet the ideal husband. A cat who will bear the brunt of her romantic disappointments at the end of the film when in a fit of anger she abandons him in the pouring rain, before regretting her gesture and going in search of him.
On the other hand, Will Smith is very happy to have his faithful German shepherd as a companion in the postapocalyptic world of I Am Legend. A nice dog with whom he goes to hunt deer, and to whom he sometimes gives baths while humming Bob Marley. A dog who will also be of paramount importance in one of the film’s key scenes, but we’re not going to spoil here, you never know…
